They are buy one get one free at Target and you can use the $5 coupon in the link below or there are tons of $3 coupons on EBay most of them are 5 coupons for the cost of one ($3 or less with shipping). Get you coupons this week so your can buy early and they will more than likely not be available to print once the sale is up and running.

Target is going to have LeapFrog Tag Books on sale Buy One, Get One Free beginning Sunday, November 21, 2010. Select titles will be marked at just $9.99, so you should be able to get two books for $9.99.

Print two $5/1 manufacturer’s coupons (you’ll need to watch the video first and then enter the sweepstakes to be able to print your coupon) and, depending upon your store’s policy, you might be able to use both coupons and get two books for free. If not, you’ll at least be able to use one $5/1 coupon and get two books for just $2.50 each.

Lemon Cookies

Lemon Cookies
1/2 cup butter
1 c sugar
1 egg
2T lemon juice
2t grated lemon peel
2 c flour
1 t baking powder
1/8 t salt

Beat butter until smooth. Add sugar and bet until blended, add egg, lemon juice and peel and beat until well blended.

add dry ingredients slowly until well blended.

Shape dough into 2 logs (abut 1 1/2 inch in diameter) wrap in plastic wrap (I use wax paper) and refrigerate for at least 3 hours and up to 3 days.

350 degrees

Sprinkle edges with yellow sugar (or not your choice) then slice into 1/4 inch slices.

Bake for 15 mins until edges are light brown and cool.

Peanut Butter Chewies

Peanut Butter Chewies

1 C butter or margarine
1 1/2 c peanut butter (I use crunchy)
1 1/2 c brown sugar
2 eggs
1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
2 t vanilla
2 c flour
1 t baking soda
1 t salt (I omit this)
1 1/2 c chopped pecans (I omit this)

350 degrees
Combine butter, peanut butter and brown sugar then beat in eggs, milk and vanilla.

Add flour. baking soda and salt.

Bake on ungreased (I use parchment paper instead) baking sheet for 10-11 mins until lightly browned on bottom. Cool 2 mins before moving to wire racks.

Summertime visit to Philly & Atlantic City

This time of the year we always visit Brian's family in Philidelphia and we go for the weekend to Atlantic City where his brother Lou and sister-in-law Nancy rent a beach house. It is always a lkot of fun and it is nice to spend so much time with the Rappaports (although they will never admit it I am sure they breath a sigh of relief when we leave).

We came in town and had dinner withe family, the next day we stopped by to see Brian's Poppie and met our new nephew Jake (what a handsome boy!), went to lunch and then had dinner with the whole family.

Friday we headed to the shore, what a great beach day! Abe was a fish ans Jude took a nice long nap on the beach. Saturday was a day full of rain so we went to Ocean City to ride the rides, Abe really wanted to ride a ferris wheel but the outside rides were not open due to the rain. We had some giant pizzas (thought it would be too much but we managed to polish them off!). We went to dinner as a family and watched all three extra inning wins by the Phillies! Sunday we spent the whole day at the beach, it was a lot of fun and our most relaxing trip to date!

The preferred mode of transportation sat Bubbie & Pop Pop's house.

When these coupons come out I use them to stock up on detergents, cleaning products, paper goods and juice boxes. Big Lots usually has pretty good prices on these but with the 20% off coupon the prices are great. They usually put these out twice a year so you have to take advantage.

6/12/10 to 6/18/10

This week was a crappy one! It started off great with Jude's 2 1/2 Birthday Party and ended great with a trip to visit my Uncle & Aunt in Chicago. In the middle Brian and I were sick as dogs and I got a horrible toothache.

The Week In Review

Not such a crazy week this past week. I had to work most evenings so on those weeks we just get by and Brian never takes pictures so when I work there is no record of their time together, but I digress :)

Well we went to my parent's house to borrow the truck and ended up leaving the kids there! What a great help it was, they got to play with their cousins all day and drive my saintly mom crazy while Brian and I really got some things done.

A Big Thank You!

I just want to take a couple seconds this weekend to give everyone serving in the military a great big THANK YOU! I know one person still serving overseas ans one who just returned safely home. Without all of the brave people in our armed forces we would not be enjoying the freedoms we have today. Fancy Nancy Water Party!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAURA!

Well it started out as a Fancy Nancy party and morphed into a water party. It has rained for what seems like 40 days ans 40 nights here in St. Louis and last weekend was our friend Maura's 5th birthday party. A Fancy Nancy Party, girls were to dress in the fancy party dresses and boys in pirate costumes. We were ready but the rain would not stop but there was a pavilion and it was a go.

The boys donned the pirate hats, eye patches and earrings and we were off.

They had dessert first with cookies for the kids to decorate and then a little lunch

...and then the rain stopped, that is when the real fun began for my boys!

Field Trip Day!

Abe had his first Field Trip and bus ride today. He was very excited to go the the Magic House and I was so glad Brian could go in a bit late today and stay with Jude while I went with Abe.

Batman Gourley turns 4!

Our friend Shanna throws the best parties! She outdid herself again this time, Aidan was turning 4 and there was no question he would have a Batman party, after all he introduces himself as Batman Gourley!

We arrived and there were capes for all the kids, with their initial on them. They made masks for themselves after lunch. Batman himself arrived and all the guests were scared of him, except the birthday boy of course. Abe said it was the best party ever! They enjoyed their capes and masks so much that they wore them all day long through another party and I had to gently take Jude's off when he fell asleep, Abe wore his until 10:30 at night when he finally gave it up.

1st T-Ball Game

Well the first game was rained out although I can not say I was too upset about that since neither Brian or I could have made it. We both had to work and had lined up my mom to take Abe. Last week was the first week Abe got to play (this week is looking iffy too). He had so much fun! He got a hit fielded the ball with the helpful instruction of his Daddy and promptly had to go potty when he got to third base. Jude however is not too fond of being on the sidelines, but once he discovered the fun of sticks and dirt all was right with the world.

Ready to practice with Daddy before the game, Jude needs some work on the placement of equipment!

Nice to see him having such a great time!

We are very lucky to have a great group of Mommies and Children to spend our days with. On any given day you can usually give a call and someone will be there to lend a hand, ear or just come over or meet up to let the kids play. Thanks Erin & co, Shanna & co, Shawn & co, Evie & Noah, Amy & co, Oana & co and Andrea & Jacek!

Last week we headed to the zoo to see the stingrays since they were back from their winter hiatus. It was a lot of fun.

Lucky Enough To Have Two Great Sets of Parents!

Today in the mail I got a Mother's Day gift from My mother and father-in-law. Something they do not have to do, after all I am not their mom! They are truly an amazing set of people. We do not live in the same city, never have, but I am so grateful they are in my life. They raised one heck of a son and now I hope that they know how grateful I am to call them my second set of "parents".

The last few days Abe has been bursting at the seems to tell me about the surprise he was making at school. He told me once and then promptly asked me to forget what he just told me :) Today the green envelope arrived!

Abe was so proud that he had written MOM and his name. It made me want to cry!

It says "Happy Mothers Day! From Your Little Frog" He is in the frog room at school.

To top it off I got an unsolicited "I Love You" and a hug, no better Mother's Day gift hands down!

How Does Your Garden Grow?

WE finally got it done. We planted the garden today. This area was full of this grass that we had to dig up as well as a lot of Daffodil bulbs as well. I took 2 days to dig it up and we ventured to Lowes today to get thew goods. We planted Sugar Snap Peas, Carrots, Tomatoes, Yellow & Green Peppers, Jalapeños, Strawberries, Watermelon, Pumpkins, Corn, Sunflowers and Zucchini. Abe was a big help and Jude did want he could :) I cant wait to taste the "fruits" of our labor! The next task is to cut down the tree that is 1/2 dead behind it to ensure enough sunlight. I think I will do that this week.

Well our first attempt on making our house our own was a bust but the boys had a great time. We realized after the fact that the color is too dark but for a few house Abe helped Brian and Jude got in on the action for a bit as well.

Well Monday was Abe's first practice. We went a bit early so the kids could play a bit first. They had a great time, well until Jude had to go to the sideline. I am happy to report that not a tear was shed and Abe had a really good time, he even asked if he had T-Ball tomorrow. What a drastic departure from the first soccer practice! School had made him a changed boy.

Museum of Transportation - Free Weekend

Last weekend was the free weekend at the Museum of Transportation. Oana, Keith and their boys Mateo & Nico and Michelle, Justin & their children Addison & Conner joined us. Abe & Jude had a great time climbing in and out of all the trains, tracks, cars and boats. The best thing is that it is just 5 minutes from our house.

Bubbe & Pop Pop will have to join us at the Museum of Transportation when they visit next!

Backyard Fun!

Every since we moves the boys, especially Jude are in love with the back yard. Jude kicks and screams every time we have to come inside. Even Rudy has made friends with the two dogs next door. IT is funny to see kids wander in the back yard all the time to play with the kids or if we are in front they will shout Abe & Jude's name to play.

Abe was climbing the jungle gym at the park by our house. He declared himself the president of the park and struck his presidential pose. I asked if he wanted a pic at the top of the gym and he replied,"Let me get ready, ok I'm ready" and here is the result.

Chocolate mouth and all. We all start somewhere, next up his American Flag room he wants.

Needs A Little Work, But He Will Get There

Abe begins T-Ball this coming Monday and last weekend our neighbor Nickey came down and he and Abe were having a catch (Abe 1st "catch" might I add). He was fully equipped with glove and helmet for the throwing and catching. Here is one of his first attempts:

Happy Easter!!

We had a beautiful day for Easter this year! It was in the upper 70's and sunny, too bad it rained so hard the night before and the yard at my Uncle Dennis' was soggy. The kids made the most of it and they had a great time. It was nice to visit with some family members and see all of the kids have a great time. I was also so glad my grandparents were able to make it. Grandpa has not been feeling too great since his surgery so it was nice to see him up and about, now I hope he starts feeling better soon!

That Easter Bunny needs to learn to take the clearance tags off the kids stuff :)

Egg Hunt in the New Neighborhood

Well we have been in the neighborhood for a week and there was a Easter Egg Hunt for the neighborhood kids. Everyone brought breakfast foods and some donated eggs for the hunt. The rain finally ended and the ground was wet but it still was on. We found out about it last minute and I quickly made some cinnamon rolls (recipe to be posted later!) and the boys had fun.

Annual Easter Egg Dying Day with the Warnecke's

We have a couple traditions with the Warnecke's, we always spend Halloween at Patrick's mom's house and go Trick or Treating in their neighborhood, second we dye Easter eggs at her house as well. Their family is so welcoming and we feel like we belong from the moment we walk in the door.

This year Abe was really having fun with the dying but Jude really could have cared less, there were new toys to play with!

We dyed them in record time this year and here are the fruits of the labor

It has been awhile!

Well the movers are gone and they boys are settled in their rooms. Our room is currently the only room in the house that is in a bit of disarray, we need to have a bit of construction done and are waiting for the final bids, until them we are in a room with our mattress on the floor! Everything else is put away in its place! They boys LOVE the yard, Jude especially, he screams every time he has to come inside! Abe was so happy this weekend because we got a new American flag. He said I have been waiting for 100 weeks for this! He carried it through the whole store and into the house, he was even saluting it in the check out line.

Olympic Fever!

We have caught the Olympic fever over at the Rappaport house. WE have watched the opening ceremony 3 times, watched alpine skiing, figure skating, speed skating, and anything else you can think of. We had an Olympic story time on Monday where they made torches Jude promptly pulled all of the streamers off his and announced "Don't like!") and read How To Train With A T. Rex And Win 8 Gold Medals by Michael Phelps.

Today we had an Olympics Playgroup, Shanna brought Olympic Gold Medals (Leftover Hanukkah Gelt with ribbons glued to them - great idea!) and all of the kids made their own Olympic Flags. It has been a crazy few weeks for the St. Louis Rappaports. We sold out house, looked at what seems to be every house for sale in Webster & Kirkwood, Brian went to Miami for 4 days, and we put in a contract that was accepted on a house in Kirkwood.

Science Center Here We Come!

Well as we near the end of our Science Center Membership (and it is smoking from all the use) we went to see the Planeterium with our friends Shanna, Aiden & Reese and we unexpectedly ran into our friend Erin with her kids, Maddoc, Kennedy, Hennessey, Lochlan, and Rafferty (Teaghan was at home). We really never venture over there so we decided to see Mr Hubble's Universe (a movie made for older kids for sure) and take in the fun stuff on the bridge. They had a great time playing with the Legos in the room at the movie and were exhausted when we left. Thanks to our friends for a great day! Hopefully we can get them to go see an IMAX movie this week with us.

This year for New Year's Eve we have a few friends over for some food and fun. Shanna & Darryl Gorley and Justine Sweeney & Michelle Maul came over with their children. 6 adults and 6 kids. The kids played with every toy in the closet and the basment, watched a couple movies and stayed up until after 1AM! The parents starey up past 10PM!!! YEAH!!! Quite a feat over the past few years. We had some great food, played Cranium and had a blast. Shanna and Darryl had to act out milking a cow, Justin and Michelle hummed a few tunes and Brian and I were the masters at drawing and guessing our clues. Sahnna & Darryl were victorious but I think a good time was had by all.

Christmas Fun!

Better late than never. From Mid December to this past weekend it has been a crazy busy time for us. Four holidays, 1 birthday, and a trip to Philly, PHEW. I posted about Hanukkah and Jude's 2nd birthday. Here is the lowdown on Christmas. We went to my Uncle Charlie & Aunt Amy's house on Christmas Eve. It was terrible weather. It rained hard the whole way there (If it had been cold enough we would have been burried in snow).

The boys had a wonderful time playing with all their cousins. We had a good time talking with all our Aunts, Uncles and older cousins. Truth be told I can not wait until Abe and Jude a a bit older so I can really enjoy family parties again without tracking them and cleaning up their messes the whole time.

Christmas Day was fast a furiuos until abotu 11 am and then it became a very relaxing day. We spent the night at my parents house (as we do every year) and Santa brings everything there. Dawna and her family came over for a couple hours before going to Jon's family festivities. All day the boys played with, and fought over their new toys. Eight million toys and they still want to play with the same thing! Finally we ate dinner with my parents (Thanks mom for making Brusaloni) and headed home.

All in all it was a great holiday, we missed our family that was not able to make it in (although we had another Christmas on Jan 2nd) and we espically missed Grandma & Grandpa Ferguson this year. Somehow I do not think Christmas will ever be complete again, it will be fun because it can not help but be with all these amazing children running around but a large part is missing. I love them and miss them so much!

Great Appetizer Recipe - Southwestern Egg Rolls

If you like Chili's Southwestern Egg Rolls you will love this recipe!

Ingredients

· 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

· 1 skinless, boneless chicken breast half

· 2 tablespoons minced green onion

· 2 tablespoons minced red bell pepper

· 1/3 cup frozen corn kernels

· 1/4 cup black beans, rinsed and drained

· 2 tablespoons frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained (I also used shredded carrots in a pinch)

· 2 tablespoons diced jalapeno peppers

· 1/2 tablespoon minced fresh parsley (I omitted this)

· 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

· 1/2 teaspoon chili powder

· 1/3 teaspoon salt

· 1 pinch ground cayenne pepper

· 3/4 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese (I used the Mexican blend of shredded cheese)

· 5 (6 inch) flour tortillas (I used Egg Roll wrappers instead)

· 1 quart oil for deep frying (I used the oil to brush on the bottom of the pan and on the tops of the egg rolls and baked for 10 min or so until they were light brown)

Directions

1. Rub 1 tablespoon vegetable oil over chicken breast. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, cook chicken approximately 5 minutes per side, until meat is no longer pink and juices run clear. Remove from heat and set aside.

2. Heat remaining 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in green onion and red pepper. Cook and stir 5 minutes, until tender.

3. Dice chicken and mix into the pan with onion and red pepper. Mix in corn, black beans, spinach, jalapeno peppers, parsley, cumin, chili powder, salt and cayenne pepper. Cook and stir 5 minutes, until well blended and tender. Remove from heat and stir in Monterey Jack cheese so that it melts.

4. Wrap tortillas with a clean, lightly moist cloth. Microwave on high approximately 1 minute, or until hot and pliable. (Once again I skipped this step and used egg roll wrappers instead)

5. Spoon even amounts of the mixture into each tortilla. Fold ends of tortillas, then roll tightly around mixture. Secure with toothpicks. Arrange in a medium dish, cover with plastic, and place in the freezer. Freeze at least 4 hours. (I also skipped this step and followed the instruction on the egg roll wrappers to seal them)

6. In a large, deep skillet, heat oil for deep frying to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Deep fry frozen, stuffed tortillas 10 minutes each, or until dark golden brown. Drain on paper towels before serving. (I brushed the pan with oil and then the tops of the egg rolls and baked at 450 for 10 min until they were golden brown)

I served this with Hidden Valley Fiesta Ranch thinned with a little milk to make a sauce.

The Zhu Zhu Pet is Here!

For Hanukkah Abe and Jude (Abe mainly) got a Zhu Zhu Pet. It was a long anticipated gift that I thought he had forgotten about until he started asking for it again a few weeks ago. Abe was so excited and Jude loved to watch it zoom around the house. It came with the predetermined name of Num Nums, Abe did not like it, so we ventured into the process of naming the pet. The choices were Zioe, Sparkley, Georgie, Squeeky, Speedy, Diamond, Brightly, Strawberry, Peach. Daisy. Bo.Alberta (after Albert Pujols), and Face (Hey I just write them down). He settles on Daisy, then later in the evening Bo and then finally Speedy felt right. This is my kind of pet, it does not eat or poop, does not need to be walked and your can turn it off and put it in a closet!

For those of your who do not know what they look like, yes this is what all the rage is about!

Can you believe he is 2!!

Jude turned 2 yesterday and he really had a great day. He got a bike from Bubbe and Pop Pop, a kitchen from Maw Maw & Paw Paw and the kitchen supplies from Mommy, Daddy & Abe. He got to have some friends over for a birthday play date. They painted ornaments, ate lunch and then decorated their own cupcakes. As he and Abe drifted off to sleep I laid with them and just appreciated them for the terrific boys they are. I am truly fortunate to have such a wonderful family and two amazing boys!

3rd Night Of Hanukkah

The third night of Hanukkah was the "Best" according to Abe. After we lit the candles they got to open all their gifts from our family in Philly. They were more generous than ever! Abe got some roller skates, a color wonder Light Brush set, a bunch of books, a Obama Calendar, and a Car wash. Jude got some new shoes, a portable Train and a tunnel, some books and art supplies. What a fun night! The boys played with their new toys, we had fun. Next Jude's birthday and then Christmas. What a whirlwind December is!

Well we missed the first night of Hanukkah since we were out on the town (parent's need a break too you know!). The second night of Hanukkah was fun. The boys helped Brian light candles (and tried to blow them out as usual). They got a tent and sleeping bags for their gift. We watched Monsters Inc. while "camping out" in the basement. It was a fun night!

Here is a storytime at the St. Louis Jewish Community Center. WE have been to Hanukkah Parties there and they do a great job. This seems like the storytime we do on Mondays but it is with books by Jewiah authors and Jewish topics, maybe a good time to introduce your children to different religions if you like.

It has been awhile since I have posted something. WE had a great Thanksgiving, we missed out Philadelphia family though. Brian was off for the week so we spent one day at The Scicence Center, went and saw an IMAX film the next day and Friday we went to visit the Humane Society. Abe and Jude have loved having their Daddy home for the week (although I am sure he is ready to go back to work.).

Abe has caught the chatty bug and talks non-stop these days. His imagination is bigger than the state of Missouri and he is soaking up knowledge like a sponge. Jude is quite a handful most days, he is fearless and defiant, quite a combo. In the midst of a fit last night he knocked his head into the corner of the wall and got quite a goose egg.

We set up the Christmas tree and got out the Hanukkah decorations last night and Abe is very into it this year and Jude is very into snatching off all off the ornaments. It should be fun!

Took Abe to the doctor for his 4 year checkup today.

At 4 years:

Abe is 37 pounds, and that is at the 59th percentile for weight.

Abe is 41 inches, and that is at the 64th percentile for height.

He got 4 shots ans took them like a champ, a few tears that a special treat took care of.

He also had his Parents as Teachers 4 year screening today, I was so impressed that he was answering questions freely and I did not have to be involved. He tested mostly at the 5 year old level. He needs to work on counting objects and writing.

I am a proud mommy today!

Shining Moments and Shiners

Well this Saturday was a wild one. We went to Abe's final soccer game where he got his most prized possession to date - a trophy. He has carried it around since. After the game I dropped Brian and the boys off so I could head to work. A couple hours later I got a call from Brian that Jude had fallen. He was trying to climb on the kitchen stools and he fell backward and hit the back of his head on the wood floor and the seat of the stool hit him squarely in the eye. We took him to the hospital since it seemed like his eyes were not focusing right and everything turned out fine. He has a nasty shiner but is no worse for the wear.

Sunday Abe and Brian built a birdhouse from an extra piece of fending we had. Abe was more excited than Brian has ever seen him. Later we had a baseball themed night before everyone but Brian fell asleep before the Phillies game came on. We had hot dogs and nachos for dinner (the boys had strawberries too) and we had Baseball cupcakes for dessert. Later they has soft pretzels for a snack. The Cracker Jacks, Peanuts and Popcorn are tonight.

Abe was so happy this morning, he wanted to come home from dropping Brian off to make a flag (no problem) then watch a movie (again no problem), when I said yeas he replied "A flag and a movie, what a life!". It was so cute. A bit later we went to Target for a few various things and he wanted to get some Halloween socks, no problem once again (after all they were $1), then he absolultly lost it beacuse he could not get both styles he had to choose, all out stomping and tears streaming crying. So I calmly took both of them away and said maybe we will get them next time when he makes a choice. He cried all the way through the store, people staring, and I just kept explaining that throwing fits is not the way to get what he wants and if he behaves maybe we can get them next time. I am happy I did not give in, but man can they be embarassing!

Cream butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the baking powder, salt and flour. Cover and chill for at least an hour.

Preheat oven to 400o. Rollout dough on floured surface ¼ to ½ inch thick. Cut into shapes. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake 6 - 8 minutes. Until set but not browned.

Sugar Cookie Icing

1 cup powdered sugar ¼ t almond extract

2 t milk (or more) food coloring

2 t light corn syrup

Stir all ingredients together except the food coloring.

Divide into separate bowls and add color to desired intensity.

Spread on cookies and let them dry completely. They will dry hard. Yu may need to leave them out overnight.

We are having a pretty low key week that is why I thought this would be a great time to start this blog. I plan posting pics and stories of the kids, listing the websites I use to find coupons and deals, and posting soe recipies I use a lot. Let me know if there is anything you want me to add. I really think this will be really go to keep our Philadelphia family updated on our lives here in St. Louis.
